13.05.2023I feel like they over estimate how powerful guards new codex is without the current dataslate buffs but id love to be proved wrong about that
Acidicstudios
12.05.2023Armour of contempt is a dumb rule for lame factions
Chris
12.05.2023Oh look. Shotgun nerfs are already happening to guard. Guess we’re becoming a cavalry army.
thewindowsman
12.05.2023It should go
DaDukemeister
12.05.2023aoc is bullshit not just for guard but in general
boomcat
12.05.2023well all this only made me save my wallet, so its fine.. i was about to buy into Guards, because i always liked them for there "human" style.. tanks arty mass inf, seemed fun, but with these rumors i wont even start them.. ive seen some battlereports with people where they use the new codex, and they still lose, for example vs Broketann, necrons and tyranids. havnnt seen them vs SM, but SM loses everything anyways.
JP
12.05.2023Wow amazing! I haven't received the cadia stand box I ordered but they're already doing chances to the codex… Só the codex I'm opening Will be useless
tehMaev
12.05.2023Finally ! Artillery is poorly designed in this game. "Hey i am playing very good, placing my models in key position, wohhey the enemy doesn't care that i outplace him he just fires"
Tanuvein
12.05.2023Its not in the new Codex, so I'm not sure why they would have AoC or the barrage exemption. Old codices, erratas and dataslate changes are for the previous edition, not the new one.
Mikael Travers
12.05.2023GW continu to do anything with rules… all is clearly out of control -_-

12.05.2023Got my Cadia Stands box yesterday so I have the Codex now. They still can get a weaker version of Armor of Contempt with the Armored Track Guards, though that only works against Damage 1 weapons. The vehicles also got a few more Wounds and slightly higher Toughness as well. As for the artillery exemption an Order can give them the same and Orders can now apply to multiple units. AM armies also default now to having the Born Soldiers doctrine (Death Korps and Catachans get their special rules on top of this) which can help as long as you don’t trade it out for other doctrines. I’m more annoyed that officer characters like the Cadian Castellan or Ursula Creed have no way to use a Master Vox since they can’t join the Command Squads that have them, which seems a bit silly.

11.05.2023Isn't the 2 flyer rule part of dataslate. Scion air cav incoming
Alice St. Clair
11.05.2023I like artillery…. big L
Masamoto
11.05.2023At least Votann got Void Armor………
HodgKnob
11.05.2023Keep Armor of Contempt on Tanks, Leman Russes, Dorns, Baneblades. All others don't need it…Sentientals with AoC is dumb.
Also taking away indirect fire from artillery would be an absolute tragedy, very uncool
Why bother printing codexes anymore when you just take rules away after public release
robert lowe
11.05.2023So an extra extra detachment for artillery then is the only viable route for my 6 vehicles… a pity it looks like catachans won't get a boost either from the updates, was hoping they'd get an extra melee atk or something
DaOakBoy
11.05.2023I hate the armor of contempt rule. It’s to hit and miss. Chimeras have it but not Custodies or Knights dumb.
Abalam
11.05.2023We have bee punchingballs for 5 years. We had to wait 5 years to get a decent codex, fitted between OP ones. If we lose the only way to survice massive AP other armies get, and if we come back to useless WS for or arties… I feel that it will be worse than before rhe codex release.
I am allready quite disapointed by the new codex, with castellan not having command squads, tank commander being average, super heavies not being able to disengage, conscripts and other units removed… Points does not allow to compensate.
I think it will be the final blow for me, leaving 40k for OPR and pure busts/miniature painting. Sad to see how GW is disrecpectfull with player who invested so mainy time and money in their more pricy armies..
snarlbuckle
11.05.2023Everyone should lose armor of contempt. It's a bad rule. Replace it with toughness changes if needed.
David TrillHudson
11.05.2023You know I ordered my copy of the guard box when it dropped for pre order on the 12th I STILL haven’t received my box, so still haven’t seen my nice shiny new limited codex. Never pre ordering from GW again ever!!
ForTehNguyen
11.05.2023dataslate overrides all current codex, thats the point of it to address balance when it needs to. You cant cherry pick what applies in the dataslate because a codex came out after. Since guard codex is fully available in january, it will get addressed in the Q1 23 dataslate they will probably take AoC away. Guard, IMO and im not a guard player, still gets AoC, etc currently. It doesnt really matter since tourneys wont allow the new codex until a full release.
Bungus_Chungus
10.05.2023I’d hope they would. I had a game with 3 leman russ tanks on the other team and none of them died despite taking an entire half a board worth of fire power. The most I ever did was get a unit of wraith guard up to fire on turn 3 and have them take one down to half wounds even with it doomed and the wraith guard guided
The king in yellow, Messiah of hastur
10.05.2023I mean, russes are still good, so it’s fine.
Sellers Burgener
10.05.2023AoC is a patch, which is supposed to be something temporary. But you'd think they'd only remove it once it's no longer needed. I can't imagine it'll be there in 10th next year. Let's hope they've got a plan to balance the insane power creep they're so fond of using to boost short term sales. Two wounds lasted about a month before it was pointless.
Silver
10.05.2023Wait they are telling us NOT to use a new codex? That's so stupid.
richard9268.1
10.05.2023Makes Knight of Piety much more valuable.
Mathias Laron
10.05.2023I'm no Tau player, but I will say that the artillery nerf kinda sucked for Eldar and stuff, so maybe we are all emenpt from it eh? Give my Dark Reapers SOME use back pleeeeease😭
Luke Brocklehurst
10.05.2023Inb4 Guard gets shafted…again
Really though….Can't they get a break?
I'm not even a Guard player but I feel bad for them as that one faction that seemingly never gets a break
Khobai
10.05.2023everything should lose AoC not just guard. And every faction except tau should lose the indirect fire penalty.
Chris C
10.05.2023It was clear these changes were coming. It's a shame they didn't just leave artillery alone, but because they buffed the units they had to remove the exemption, especially with the spotter ability. AoC going makes sense, Russes are far more dangerous and mobile now and feel a bit more lore accurate honestly. Hammer of the emperor getting a buff but becoming optional was also a good touch.
Jäger Meister_175
10.05.2023Welp. Might as well sell my Basilisks
Ben Correll
08.05.2023If Artillery gets nerfed hate to break it to GW but nobody is going to be using their shiny new field guns
Quaid Dalton
08.05.2023Between being outdated after not even a week and having literal typos and errors in the codex and data cards, I'm just finding this guard release really funny in a strange way. I'm still happy with the general feel of the book though and I'll take this codex in any way over the previous mess of a book.
Ven Blackfurr
08.05.2023Aoc i saw goin away. Barrage, not so much, as it's a total game mechanic change. But who knows maybe some rules writer will say Guard get no exemption, and then wonder why sales are down and why no one uses the new shiny field guns.
zeog zeog
08.05.2023Any idea when the "Imperial Armour" FAQ is coming? Currently half of my Guard army I have done is Macharius and Malcadors…. I mean I never picked it to be competitive to start with but I have the new codex and want to play with my toys I've worked on: )
John
08.05.2023You are missing the Armour Tracks upgrade for 5 points, Each time a ranged attack with a damage characteristic of 1 is allocated to this model, add 1 the armour saving throw made against that attack. The upgrade can be equipped on all tracked vehicles.
Carpatheon
08.05.2023If guard lose barrage rules, then why would you use indirect fire. They fixed the biggest problems by giving turrets +1 to hit, so now most tanks can have a useful gun. If we have 3+ to hit for tanks, and 5+ to hit for barrage weapons, that's not a hard choice.
admiral snackbar
08.05.2023Points cost for catachan infantry units needs to be lowered.
Juju T
08.05.2023without these rules, the IG codex would be the only codex worse in V9 than in V8!
youthere
08.05.2023this whole codex is a side grade, maybe a slight upgrade overall at the very best
Reeplcheep
08.05.2023Losing Armour of contempt is fine, but the barrage exemption destroys all indirect.
Paweł Bąk
07.05.2023Ok to all who are claiming that guard artillery is op. It was the only fairly strong thing in the old codex but still we were on the rock bottom with 40% win rate(or even worse) in the entire 9th edition.
Guard artillery vehicles can do only one thing and army is specialized on artillery and now even death guard has better chance on for doing something with they Indirect weapon than the guard
Ml PSH
07.05.2023what even is 40k anymore?
Blake Baddington
07.05.2023What a dumpster 🔥 and we aren't at the release date yet! Imagine how crappy Guard will turn after NERF / next dataslated/ etc and I'm not even starting with 10th edition that will drop us to the very bottom of the competitive pile! Why hate the guard so much? We cost WAAAAAY more than most armies because of the mass needed!

07.05.2023Paper codex are obsolete and anachronistic
karrick
07.05.2023Honestly all this nerf/changes makes me completely uninterested in coming back to 40k.
Just fucking take your time, balance all the codexs, then release them.
I refuse to buy a rule book, then a codex, then download several editions of data sheets that then makes the codex worthless.
Morgan Hall
07.05.2023Wouldn't it be better if GW would figure out what's balanced and lore accurate, then play the balancing game with points rather than a bunch of rule changes every month?
I bought a guard army and assembled them right before they announced the range refresh. Totally killed my desire to work on them. I got the cadia stands box after my brand new minis were made obsolete, and now I can't even play with them with the rules THEY WROTE.
After I got the Leagues of Votann box because I knew they would be out of stock by the time I actually got around to working on them, and I didn't want to pay scalper prices for it, and their codex was obsolete BEFORE I EVEN GOT MY HANDS ON IT? To be fair, they were unbalanced, but can they please just MAKE THE FACTIONS BALANCED?? Maybe just ALMOST BALANCED???
white miasma
07.05.2023A Chimera going from 75 points with AOC (not to be confused with that horse-faced thing in Congress), to 90 points with the retarded and useless track guards that don't even preserve the movement stat-line, and the thing loses the Crush Them stratagem which was one of the greatest stratagems in the book and only one for the Chimera; now this thing is "elite" as can be! Oh and I sure will enjoy cutting all three out of all my lists to get back down below 2000 points!
Hohoho merry Christmas!
theberghler
07.05.2023Well, if Guard can lose AoC, maybe all the space marines can lose it too!
A man can dream, can't he?
Operator 9
07.05.2023okay fine…im out. getting back into warhammer was a bad idea anyways…
