Having played through most of this, the intro sequence is the best part. Most of the game is aimlessly wandering around collecting things and is quite tedious. Itโs also really easy after you get the pistol. The first stage where you have to keep going back to change the colours to get all the keys is tedious in the extreme.
Graphics are awesome, very nice pixellation and use of multicolors. However, the game concept is a total steal from Sacred armor of Antiriad from 1986. Still thumbs up for a quality release in 2021 !!
I don't understand why they'd use a lives system in what is essentially an Adventure game or a Metroidvania even I had the same problem with the first game so I just used a trainer to play it as a normal Metoidvania and it was a ton of fun that way. It still provided a challenge, I didn't mind respawning at spawn points, but I could explore and play the game normally without worrying that I'd run out of lives in a…metroidvania of all things. I'm going to buy Soulless 2 for sure I just wish they did away with the live system. Awesome and very informative video as always, thanks, bud ๐
Much respect! A lot work goes into these games. I always tell developers if they want a challenge, pick a retro system with limited ram space and build something awesome. Not as easy as it sounds.
When you consider how many game developers in the modern era are grossly spoiled and take for granted the capabilities of the hardware they have at their disposal in terms of what they can do, I wonder how many of them could cope if they had to create games with the types of memory and hardware limitations of yesteryear?
Retro game developers are in many ways superior to the ones in the modern era because of the incredible limitations they have to work with.
